UKRAINE EMERGENCY APPEAL - Felsted Aid for Deprived Children (working name UK-Aid) is a registered charity that Felsted School supports and they have THREE 18 ton lorries which were ready to drive to Ukraine on 24 March full of Humanitarian aid as well as all the items we collected as a school at Harvest Festival in October. These lorries can no longer travel to Ukraine but are now destined for Moldova where many Ukrainian mothers and children are seeking refuge. 1 in 8 children in Moldova are now Ukrainian refugees. The money Felsted School raised at the Harvest festival is helping towards the cost of sending the lorries but if anyone would like to donate towards these costs, we would aim to raise £3,500 to cover the cost of sending each lorry.

Australia’s east coast is in the midst of one of the worst floods in the country’s history. After a summer of record high rainfall, the floods have so far caused a number of deaths, and the evacuation of thousands of Queensland and New South Wales residents. The clean-up and rebuild will be lengthy and onerous. Some people lost everything. This fund is in support of Ukrainian Red Cross and organizations supporting refugees in neighbouring countries. In late January, Tropical Cyclone Ana brought strong winds and heavy rains to parts of Madagascar, Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, impacting hundreds of thousands of people with devastating floods and landslides. At least 116 people have died, tens of thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed along with schools, health centers, businesses, and infrastructure. Just two weeks later Tropical Cyclone Batsirai made landfall on the east coast of Madagascar with wind gusts of 146mph and torrential rains, causing at least 10 additional fatalities and displacing another 50,000 people; impacting many of the same areas already suffering from Tropical Cyclone Ana. Whole villages are reported to have been washed away by the latest storm. Cisco Foundation has launched a $250K Tropical Cyclone Ana Disaster Relief campaign to support the efforts of the organizations listed below. **Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund may include organizations based in the US, and in other countries. On January 15, 2022, the eruption of an underwater volcano near Tonga on Saturday was likely the biggest recorded anywhere on the planet in more than 30 years. The eruption caused a huge plume of ash, gas and steam was spewed up to 20 kilometers into the atmosphere, and tsunami waves were sent crashing across the Pacific. Both the eruption and subsequent tsunami caused significant damage along the western coast of the main island of Tongatapu. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake caused extensive damage in Haiti, especially in the southern region, while the effects of the deadly 2010 earthquake is still be felt. The buildings are badly damaged and more than 2,000 people have been killed. The earthquake caused considerable damage and invaded hospitals. Funding locally managed non-profit organizations that can provide emergency relief and long-term recovery to meet the needs of the community is critical. The 2021 wildfire season is shaping up to be another terrible one in California and the Western United States. In California, three of the 2021 fires (Dixie, Caldor, and Monument) are already on Cal Fire’s top 20 largest California Wildfires list since 1932 (by acreage burned), with five of the top 7 largest fires claimed by 2020 fires. Startling images of the Dixie Fire’s total destruction of the entire town of Greenville or of firefighters riding ski chairlifts to prevent the Caldor Fire from cresting the ridge at Kirkwood Mountain Resort put these statistics into sharp focus. The organizations in this fund were researched and chosen to provide boots-on-the-ground support during and in the aftermath of wildfires to meet the short, medium, and long-term needs of impacted people.
